Fans are “Super Disappointed” With New Superman Suit Worn by David Corenswet
Superman fans have expressed their “disappointment” over early images of the new suit worn by David Corenswet. The film, now simply titled ‘Superman’ after originally being called ‘Superman: Legacy,’ is set to premiere in July 2025, launching the latest iteration of the DC Universe.
Directed by James Gunn – now co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran – ‘Superman’ also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, among others.

The first glimpse of Corenswet as Superman was shared last month when Gunn posted a picture on social media of the actor in costume.
In the image, Corenswet is seen in the iconic red and blue Superman suit, albeit with some changes to the logo and the apparent return of Superman’s famous red briefs. The image also features an ominous beam firing behind Superman. Further images have been released since, and fans on social media have been quick to voice their concerns about the new design.
One user on X wrote, “I love & support David Corenswet’s casting as Superman but I am super disappointed in the suit. This is such a massive downgrade from Henry Cavill’s Superman. What a missed opportunity. Hoping they fix this in post.” Another commented, “The problem I keep coming back to with the Corenswet suit is how flat it looks despite all the extra lines. Pardon my being That Guy™, but even in the softest light, Cavill’s didn’t have this problem. The silver undersuit worked wonders for giving it dimension.”
In January last year, Peter Safran shared more about the plot for ‘Superman,’ telling reporters: “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks kindness is old-fashioned.”
In December 2022, Gunn confirmed that longtime Superman actor Henry Cavill would not be part of his vision for the DC Universe. Gunn explained, “In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”
