Filming Continues in Venice for 'Emily in Paris' After Sudden Death on Set

On Thursday, 21st August, 47-year-old assistant director Diego Borella tragically collapsed and died while getting ready for a final scene inside the Hotel Danieli in Venice. Doctors believe he had a rapid heart attack, but despite prompt medical assistance, he was declared dead at the site. Respected Venetian artist Borella, who received instruction in Rome, London, and New York, contributed both technical proficiency and creative vision to the work. After Borella's tragic death, there was definitely a sad atmosphere on the Venice set.

Swift Return to Work in Venice

Remarkably, the cameras did not remain motionless for long due of grief. The actors were back on the streets of Venice to begin filming by Saturday, 23rd August. Lily Collins, looking calm but thoughtful, accompanied her co-stars Paul Forman, Ashley Park, and Eugenio Franceschini on a boat in the city's iconic waterways, demonstrating a strong work ethic in the face of tragic events. Even Paramount Television Studios expressed their sorrow, referring to Borella as a "valued part of the production family."

Cause of the Death

On 22nd August, at approximately 7:00 PM local time, assistant director Diego Borella sadly passed out while working on a scene for 'Emily in Paris' Season 5 at the Hotel Danieli in Venice. He was declared dead at the spot despite attempt to revive him and on-site medical assistance. La Repubblica was told by a local physician that a sudden heart attack was most likely the cause.

Production Resumes Just Two Days After Tragic Loss

The cast and crew continue filming while juggling their emotions and professionalism. Production plans continued to proceed as planned, with the fifth season still anticipated to conclude on 25th August. The team's tenacity shows their reverence for Borella's memory as well as their commitment to the job he helped make a reality. With the 18th December premiere of the upcoming season, viewers everywhere will be able to follow Emily's travels through Rome and now Venice.
