A strange signal from deep space sets off a chain of events in 'Pluribus,' the upcoming Apple TV+ series from 'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul' creator Vince Gilligan. The show opens with a cryptic extraterrestrial transmission that will change one woman's life—and possibly the fate of the entire planet.
What 'Pluribus' First Look Reveals?
The first four minutes of Pluribus, revealed exclusively by Entertainment Weekly, introduce a group of scientists struggling to decode a puzzling frequency from 600 light-years away.
The signal, which repeats every 78 seconds, behaves like Morse code but defies all known communication patterns. It isn't bouncing off the moon, and it's powerful enough to have travelled across galaxies—a mystery that sets the tone for the rest of the series.

Story Behind 'Pluribus'
At the heart of the story is Carol Sturka, played by 'Better Call Saul' star Rhea Seehorn. Carol is a cynical, lonely novelist whose life takes an unexpected turn when a strange virus begins to infect humanity. Everyone on Earth seems affected—everyone except Carol. As she tries to understand why she's immune, she becomes the world's reluctant saviour in what Gilligan describes as a darkly humorous and emotional take on human happiness.
The show's creator, Vince Gilligan, is returning to his sci-fi roots after years of acclaimed character dramas. He envisioned 'Pluribus' specifically for Seehorn, praising her ability to balance sharp wit with deep emotional range. The series explores the idea of the "world's most miserable person" being forced to save humanity from a mysterious epidemic that makes people blissfully happy—whether they want to be or not.

'Pluribus' promises Gilligan's trademark blend of tension, wit, and heart, with a cosmic twist that nods to his 'X-Files' origins. Fans can expect hidden Easter eggs, layered storytelling, and a powerful performance from Seehorn when 'Pluribus' premieres on 7th November, on Apple TV+.
