Fans of high-octane action are in for a thrill when 'The Running Man' hits theatres on 7th November. Glen Powell, 36, takes on the lead role of Ben Richards in this modern adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 dystopian novel — a character forced to survive a deadly televised game show where survival is rare and danger is constant.

The upcoming film reimagines the cult classic originally brought to the screen in 1987 by Arnold Schwarzenegger. This time, Powell’s version of Richards is thrust into an even grittier, more adrenaline-fueled battle for survival — but not everyone in his life is thrilled about it.

Glen Powell is in Full Action Mode

Glen Powell revealed that while he’s enjoying the intense physicality and stunt work that comes with the role, his mother Cyndy is less enthusiastic. He explained that the action sequences he’s involved in are impressive, but have made his mom nervous.

While the film’s title suggests plenty of chase scenes, Powell jokingly noted that after seeing the script, he quickly realised he’d be enduring non-stop action for nearly two hours straight. His character, after all, is caught in a nightmarish version of a reality show where contestants — or "Runners" — must evade elite killers to survive and potentially earn a life-changing reward.

The actor described it as a classic underdog story set in a dystopian world, centred on a man trying to defy impossible odds in a game designed for him to lose.

'The Running Man' isn't just a fresh take — it's also been endorsed by the original star himself. Glen Powell shared that after reconnecting with Arnold Schwarzenegger through his friend Patrick Schwarzenegger, he was thrilled to receive the legendary action star’s blessing. He even hinted that Arnold would be getting a special gift from the new production soon.

More About 'The Running Man'

Fans got a glimpse of the reboot’s intensity in the newly released trailer, where Schwarzenegger makes a surprise cameo. The film, directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall, boasts a stacked cast including Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, among others.

According to the film’s official synopsis, the story unfolds in a near-future society where 'The Running Man' is the most-watched show on TV. For 30 brutal days, contestants must outwit elite assassins while the world watches their every move—and cheers for the kill. Each day survived increases the cash prize, but very few ever make it out alive.

Ben Richards, played by Powell, enters the lethal game with one goal: saving his sick daughter. Persuaded by the show's charismatic yet cold producer, Dan Killian (played by Brolin), Ben quickly turns from desperate contestant into a surprise crowd favourite — and a dangerous threat to the corrupt system behind the spectacle.

With explosive action, a star-studded cast, and a deeper emotional core, 'The Running Man' promises to deliver a thrilling ride for fans of sci-fi and survival stories alike.
