While presenting Hudson with the Arlington Artist of the Year Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on 13th February, Paltrow spoke warmly about their decades-long connection. She explained that she was there not just as a fellow actor, but as a real and longtime friend. To her, Kate Hudson feels like a little sister.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who is older, recalled knowing Hudson when she was just a child. Their families were close as well—Paltrow's parents, Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow, were friendly with Hudson's parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Although they grew up in the same social circle, Paltrow said their friendship truly deepened in the early 2000s.

Paltrow fondly mentioned that their children once formed a band together when they were young and later attended high school side by side. Kate Hudson was honoured at the festival for her Oscar-nominated performance in 'Song Sung Blue,' directed by Craig Brewer and co-starring Hugh Jackman. The film tells the true story of a married couple who created a popular Neil Diamond tribute band in Wisconsin.
