Chris Columbus, the director behind the first two 'Harry Potter' films and producer of the third, has made it clear that he has no interest in participating in HBO’s highly anticipated 'Harry Potter' series reboot. Having launched the wizarding world on the big screen over 20 years ago, Columbus feels he has already completed his chapter in the Hogwarts saga.

While Chris Columbus is stepping away from direct involvement, he fully supports the return to the Wizarding World on television. He expressed admiration for the new series' potential to explore elements of the books that were left out of the original films, such as the character Peeves and intricate potion-related storylines involving Harry and Hermione. For Columbus, the reboot represents an opportunity to bring these scenes to life in ways the films never could.

New Series is Nostalgic to Chris Columbus

Seeing photos of Nick Frost as Hagrid and newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter on set in London triggered a strong sense of nostalgia for Chris Columbus. He recalled the challenges of shooting the original films on location two decades ago and praised the young actors and their families for navigating the immense pressures of sudden global fame. Chris Columbus also reflected on the precautions he and producer David Heyman implemented to ensure the child actors were well supported, drawing on lessons learned from his experience directing Home Alone.

Columbus expressed immense pride in Daniel Radcliffe's career, highlighting his accomplishments on stage and his growth as a performer. For the director, seeing Radcliffe succeed in musical theatre and comedy has been a moving experience.

Regarding J.K. Rowling, Chris Columbus separates the author from the art, acknowledging the controversy surrounding her comments on trans issues. While he does not agree with her statements, he describes the situation as unfortunate, emphasising that his admiration for the original 'Harry Potter' films remains intact despite the surrounding controversy.
