The storyline draws inspiration from a true tale, adapted from a magazine article of the same name. ‘Hit Ma’n revolves around Gary Johnson, portrayed by Powell, who finds himself entangled in a web of deceit when he falls for a woman, played by Adria Arjona, who initially hires him to eliminate her spouse. However, a twist unfolds when the husband mysteriously dies before Gary can carry out the task.

Describing the film, Linklater sheds light on Powell’s character, highlighting themes of identity and passion. He remarks, “It’s about identity, self and passion. But on a plot level, it’s just a guy who gets in a little too deep. His passions lead him in a direction where he’s deceiving someone he’s in love with and being someone else. They have to deal with those repercussions.”

Reflecting on his experience working on ‘Hit Man,’ Powell credits his time spent with Tom Cruise on the set of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ as a valuable learning opportunity.

He shares, “I mean, look, the amount that I’ve learned from Tom on ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ it’s the greatest film school I’ve ever had. I learned from Jerry Bruckheimer, Joseph Kosinski, Chris McQuarrie and Tom Cruise. That education, I’ve taken it on to every project since I shot that movie.”

‘Hit Man’ is set to premiere on Netflix on 7th June.
