Hollywood Music in Media Awards Recognize Billie Eilish, Hans Zimmer, Nicholas Britell and More

At the 12th annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards, a diverse array of talents from the music industry were recognized across over 30 categories. Among the notable honorees were acclaimed singer-songwriters such as Billie Eilish, H.E.R., Adam Levine and Rufus Wainwright, along with renowned composers like Hans Zimmer, Rachel Portman, Alberto Iglesias and Nicholas Britell.

The HMMAs distinguish themselves by celebrating not just the traditional realms of film and television music but also encompassing a wide spectrum of creative endeavours, including contributions to video games, commercials, and theme park compositions.

In the realm of film, nominations are categorised into various genres, resulting in a range of shortlists that members of the Academy’s music branch often consider during the Oscars voting process. One of the standout awards was for ‘Best Song in a Feature Film,’ which went to Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas for their work on the theme song for the James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’. 

Other notable song awards included Rufus Wainwright for his contribution to the documentary film ‘Rebel Hearts’, Adam Levine and his co-writers for a tune from ‘Paw Patrol And the collaborative efforts behind a song from ‘Coda,’ which won in the independent film category.

This year, the HMMAs introduced new categories to encompass a broader spectrum of talent, notably recognizing outstanding on-screen performances in films. Amelia Jones received acclaim for her portrayal and performance of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Both Sides Now’ in the Apple Plus feature ‘Coda’, marking a significant expansion of the awards to include actors and on-screen performances alongside writers and composers.

The television categories also saw deserving winners, with Jung Jae-il earning Best Score for ‘Squid Game’ and ‘H.E.R’. winning for her song contribution to Netflix’s ‘We the People,’ alongside her talented co-writers.
