How Jennifer Lopez Blended Her Family With Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
Family takes priority for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.
Despite recent reports suggesting that their marriage is experiencing challenges, Lopez has shared insights about the journey of merging her family with Affleck’s. Lopez and her ex-husband Marc Anthony are parents to 16-year-old twins Max and Emme. Affleck and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner have three children: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.
In the December 2022 issue of Vogue, Lopez emphasized the delicate process of blending their families, stating, “The transition is a process that needs to be handled with so much care.”

She praised Garner as “an amazing co-parent,” noting that Garner and Affleck “work really well together.” Lopez also expressed her hopes for their blended family, saying, “I hope to cultivate a family where his kids see me as a new ally, and my kids see him as a new ally.”
Lopez continued, “Having someone who loves and cares about them but offers a different perspective helps me see things I might miss because I’m so emotionally involved.”
In 2022, Lopez and Affleck celebrated their first Christmas as a married couple with their expanded family. Lopez described the festive chaos in her On the JLo newsletter, writing, “We have blended families, doubled the people, doubled the fun, doubled the love, doubled the presents, and tripled the chaos!”
Affleck, reflecting on co-parenting with Garner, told PEOPLE in February 2020, “When you have children with somebody, you’re connected to them forever, and I’m very lucky she is the mother of my children.”
All five of Lopez and Affleck’s children participated in their wedding celebration in Savannah, Georgia, in August 2022. The couple, who rekindled their romance in 2021 after breaking up in 2004, married in a small Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a larger celebration with friends and family in Savannah the next month.
Recently, there have been rumours of trouble in their marriage, as the couple hadn’t been seen together for over a month and a half. Currently living separately, they have nonetheless been spotted together wearing their wedding rings.
A source told PEOPLE that Lopez and Affleck’s marriage “is not in the best place at the moment,” adding, “She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world. He is more introspective and private. This has been difficult day to day.”
