Idris Elba appears ready to spend more time behind the camera. The 53-year-old star took part in a Q&A session at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia recently, where he discussed his newest directorial work, 'Dust To Dreams.' The short film marks his return to directing for the first time since his 2018 feature 'Yardie,' and he made it clear that he hopes to continue that journey.

During the event, Elba told the audience that he hopes long-time fans will support him as he slowly transitions away from acting. He shared that his long-term goal is to eventually focus on directing full-time. With more than 130 acting credits to his name, he acknowledged that he has spent decades in front of the camera and still enjoys it, but he feels that directing allows him to use his creativity in a different way and be involved on set from a fresh perspective.

Idris Elba also offered an update on his next feature film as a director, 'This Is How It Goes,' an Apple project adapted from Neil LaBute's 2005 play. He explained that he reimagined the original story by reversing the racial dynamics of the central characters, creating a narrative that explores marriage, trust, and race through a new lens. The film was shot in Ghana and recently completed production.

Idris Elba Clears Rumours

Despite his growing interest in directing, Idris Elba addressed rumours about other projects. He confirmed that speculation about him becoming the next James Bond is untrue. However, he will return to acting soon, reprising his long-running role as Detective John Luther. Filming for the new Luther movie is scheduled to begin in February, marking his first appearance as the iconic U.K. detective since 'Luther: The Fallen Sun' in 2023.

While Elba continues to build his directing career, he has previously spoken about how grateful he feels for his acting opportunities. In a July appearance on Amy Poehler's 'Good Hang' podcast, he described acting as a privilege and said that working on set never feels like a burden to him, even though others might view his schedule as demanding.

As Idris Elba leans more toward directing, he remains committed to both his craft and evolving his creative path—promising fans that while change is coming, storytelling remains at the heart of everything he does.
