Jaco Bouwer’s ‘Orion’: Andrew McCarthy and Debby Ryan to Star in Upcoming Sci-Fi Thriller

According to the latest publication, ‘Orion’ delves into an intense interrogation designed to uncover the truth behind the deaths of the crew members before their crash. A U.S. intelligence expert is brought in to help an astronaut, the sole survivor suffering from amnesia, regain his lost memories.

Anne Vithayathil penned the screenplay, with Drew Van Acker, Elle Army, Scott Army, and Sunil Perkash taking on production duties. Described as a “very unique world-building sci-fi thriller,” the film promises strong performances from its cast and meticulous world-building by director Jaco Bouwer.

The producers expressed their excitement about sharing this film, filled with clever twists and turns, with a global audience. Bouwer, known for his critically acclaimed 2021 film ‘Gaia,’ has earned accolades for his work, including the ‘Best Cinematography’ award and four African Academy Awards for ‘Best Director and Best Picture.’ ‘Gaia,’ distributed by Neon/Decal, premiered worldwide at SXSW.

‘Orion ‘features Andrew McCarthy in an unconventional role, marking a significant year for him professionally. In June, his documentary ‘Brats,’ which explores the lives of young 80s Hollywood actors in coming-of-age films, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is now available for streaming on Hulu.
