James Gunn has opened up about the potential crossover between two of DC’s most iconic heroes—Robert Pattinson’s Batman and David Corenswet’s Superman. While speaking at Comic-Con 2025, the 'Superman' director acknowledged that the idea of uniting the two characters has been considered, though it's not part of the immediate plan for the DC Universe.
The conversation gained traction after the recent success of 'Superman', which premiered earlier this month and quickly became a box office hit, earning over $426 million globally. The film introduced David Corenswet as the new Clark Kent, officially replacing Henry Cavill, who previously portrayed the character in several DC films. Corenswet’s performance has been widely praised, and the film is seen as a fresh and optimistic take on the iconic hero.

James Gunn Shares About Unique Collaboration
James Gunn confirmed that he has previously met with Robert Pattinson and discussed the possibility of their characters appearing in a shared project. However, he emphasised that nothing is currently in development, citing that the DC slate is still evolving and decisions are yet to be finalised.
Robert Pattinson, who debuted as the Dark Knight in 2022’s 'The Batman', is set to reprise his role in 'The Batman 2', scheduled for release in October 2027. Meanwhile, DC is also working on 'The Brave and the Bold', a separate Batman project that will feature Bruce Wayne alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin. According to James Gunn, the script for that film is currently in progress, with a dedicated screenwriter actively working on it.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding a Batman-Superman crossover, Gunn remains heavily involved in shaping the future of the DC Universe. At Comic-Con, he was promoting the upcoming second season of 'Peacemaker', arriving next month, and his next film, 'Supergirl', which is expected to premiere in 2026.
While no immediate team-up is confirmed, fans continue to speculate about a future film that could bring together Pattinson’s gritty vigilante and Corenswet’s hopeful Superman. James Gunn's remarks suggest that the door is open—just not ready to be walked through yet.
