As excitement builds for the 11th July release of 'Superman', director James Gunn has revealed a surprising addition to the film's cast. Bradley Cooper, known for his role in 'A Star Is Born' and for voicing Rocket in the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' series, will appear in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) reboot as Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian father.
This new 'Superman' movie will serve as the official launch of the DCU, a reimagined cinematic universe that replaces the former DCEU. The film stars David Corenswet in the title role, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, among notable names.

Gunn, who has worked closely with Cooper in the past, shared in an interview that the actor agreed to the cameo as a personal favour. Cooper travelled to England for a 3D shoot that will present him as a holographic version of Jor-El. Gunn also hinted that there may be future appearances of the character elsewhere in the DCU, though nothing has been confirmed.
Looking ahead, 'Superman' will be followed by other DCU entries such as 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' and 'Clayface', continuing the interconnected storytelling model. Meanwhile, Gunn has also been vocal about his views on the film industry, recently noting that the decline in quality across Hollywood stems from producing films without finalised scripts—an issue that led DC Studios to cancel a project that wasn’t creatively ready.

Despite these challenges, Gunn emphasised that legacy titles like 'The Batman Part II' remain a priority, even as the DCU expands into new territory.
'Superman' hits theatres on 11th July, promising a fresh start for one of cinema’s most iconic heroes—and now, a surprise return from a familiar face.
