Jeffrey Wright Reflects on Anticipating 'Batman 2' Script

Jeffrey Wright has earned his place as an Oscar nominee, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. Having collaborated with renowned directors such as Sidney Lumet and Ang Lee and most recently with newcomer Cord Jefferson in the satirical dramedy ‘American Fiction’, Wright's journey has been one of artistic growth and recognition. 

With his Oscar nomination, he expresses a deep sense of gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received from both the Hollywood community and studios. Reflecting on the acclaim garnered by ‘American Fiction’, Wright acknowledges the unprecedented level of backing he received for a project in which he played a central role.

He appreciates the recognition the film has received and marvels at the achievement, considering its modest production scale and limited filming schedule. Despite the budget constraints, the film's impact resonated far beyond its size, earning accolades across various categories.

Turning to his next endeavour, ‘The Batman 2’, Wright maintains a lighthearted approach when discussing the project's secrecy. With a touch of humour, he reveals that he has yet to receive the script but assures listeners that once he does, he will be eager to share details. 

Aware of the heightened anticipation surrounding the film, he playfully teases director Matt Reeves, suggesting that his reaction upon hearing the podcast may prompt him to expedite the script's delivery. However, Wright also acknowledges the stringent measures taken to safeguard the script's confidentiality, emphasising the intense security protocols employed in the superhero genre.

Recalling his experience with the first ‘Batman’ film, he describes the stringent security measures, including the use of self-destructing files akin to something out of a ‘Mission Impossible’ scenario. Such measures underscore the gravity of the project and the commitment to preserving its secrecy until the right moment.
