Jerry Bruckheimer Says Johnny Depp Would Return For Next ‘Pirates’ Movie ‘If it Was Up to Me’

In a recent interview, veteran film producer Jerry Bruckheimer discussed the planned reboot of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise and expressed his wish for Johnny Depp to reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Bruckheimer emphasised his admiration for Depp, describing him as a talented artist and a dear friend. He praised Depp’s unique portrayal of Captain Jack, highlighting how the actor’s interpretation brought the character to life with elements inspired by Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. Depp’s embodiment of Jack Sparrow, a character not originally scripted in such a way, played a pivotal role in defining the franchise’s success.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, known for its adventurous tales set against the backdrop of the Disneyland theme park attraction, featured Depp alongside stars like Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley in its initial instalments. Depp’s performance in the first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, earned him critical acclaim, including an Oscar nomination.

Since the release of 2017’s ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ discussions surrounding the franchise’s future have been ongoing. Reports about Depp’s potential return have surfaced intermittently, with conflicting statements from representatives and sources close to the actor. Despite these uncertainties, 

Disney is exploring multiple avenues for the franchise’s continuation. Bruckheimer revealed plans for both a reboot of the original series and a separate entry starring Margot Robbie, a project that has been in development for several years.

As Bruckheimer navigates the complexities of reviving the beloved franchise, he remains optimistic about the possibility of Depp’s involvement while also acknowledging Disney’s interest in expanding the ‘Pirates’ universe with new stories and characters.
