Joe Manganiello and Caitlin O’Connor recently found themselves navigating a crucial conversation about children, spurred by comments from Joe’s ex-wife, Sofía Vergara. Vergara, who split from Manganiello in 2023 after seven years of marriage, opened up in an interview with El País in January, attributing their breakup to differing views on starting a family.
The 'Modern Family' star, who has a 32-year-old son named Manolo from a previous relationship, shared that she wasn't interested in having more children due to her age. Manganiello, on the other hand, wanted children, leading to a fundamental mismatch in their marriage.

According to a source cited by People, Vergara’s remarks prompted Manganiello, 47, and his current partner, Caitlin O’Connor, 34, to have a serious discussion about their future. "Joe and Caitlin have a good partnership," a source close to the couple said. "The kids' conversation has been something Joe and Caitlin have had to navigate because of Sofía’s statements, which suggest Joe is in the relationship solely to have kids because Caitlin is of childbearing age." The source noted that O’Connor isn't someone who'd appreciate being in a relationship based on such terms.
Manganiello also addressed Vergara’s claims in a recent interview with Men’s Journal, disputing the notion that differing opinions on family expansion were the cause of their divorce. According to the 'Magic Mike' actor, they separated because they "grew apart."
He expressed frustration over being portrayed as a man having a midlife crisis and making unreasonable demands on Vergara, which he firmly denied. “That’s never who I was,” he stated.

Backing up Manganiello’s perspective, a source told People that the El País interview didn’t tell the full story. The insider claimed that the couple did try for a baby at the start of their relationship, but it didn't happen. In July 2023, Vergara and Manganiello announced their split in a joint statement, asking for privacy.
Manganiello initiated the divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason, with court documents showing their separation date as July 2. Since the split, both Manganiello and Vergara have moved on. While Manganiello is dating O’Connor, Vergara is in a low-key relationship with orthopaedic surgeon Justin Saliman.
