Depp appears alongside several of Burton's frequent collaborators in the four-part docuseries, including Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder and Helena Bonham Carter. In the documentary, Johnny Depp looks back on his early encounters with Tim Burton before they teamed up for 'Edward Scissorhands,' and he also recounts personal moments when Burton supported him and his family through difficult periods.

Tara Wood said Depp shared far more than she anticipated, to the point where the production team could have crafted a separate feature entirely about the two artists. She emphasised that their partnership runs deep and offers fascinating insight into why they have remained close for more than three decades.

Throughout the series, collaborators describe a recurring theme in Burton's work—what Wood refers to as his ongoing homage to the idea of the misunderstood outsider. The documentary notes how this motif appears across Burton's films, from 'Dumbo and Sweeney Todd' to 'Corpse Bride' and even Depp's portrayal of Ichabod Crane in 'Sleepy Hollow.' Wood believes this archetype reflects not just Tim Burton, but also several of the actors who have helped bring his characters to life.

'Tim Burton: Life in the Line' is now available to purchase and stream on the project's official website.
