‘Joker 2’ Trailer: Steve Coogan’s Appearance Confuses Fans

This week saw the release of the official trailer for ‘Joker 2’ and fans were in for a surprise as comedian and actor Steve Coogan made an appearance in the first teaser of the film.

Warner Bros. dropped the first look at ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ set to hit UK cinemas on 4th October. Joaquin Phoenix will be reprising his unique and layered portrayal of the iconic DC villain, a role that earned him the ‘Best Actor’ Oscar. In the sequel, Arthur Fleck/Joker is joined by his comic book sidekick and lover, Harley Quinn, portrayed by Lady Gaga.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Coogan in the trailer, making a brief appearance in the 30-second teaser clip. While it’s uncertain who Coogan is playing, the footage hints at his character possibly being a psychologist or prison staff questioning the Joker.

Social media buzzed with reactions to Coogan’s involvement, with one fan expressing disbelief at seeing Coogan and Lady Gaga sharing the screen, while another imagined the amusing scenario of Alan Partridge encountering The Joker.

As for Lady Gaga’s character, the trailer suggests a departure from the DC origin story of Harley Quinn. Instead of being a psychologist at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum, as depicted in the comics, Harley Quinn is portrayed as a patient at the psychiatric facility, forming a connection with Phoenix’s character.

The trailer offers glimpses of Gaga in the iconic Harley Quinn attire, complete with a jester-inspired costume and dark circus makeup. Gaga’s character can be heard expressing her sense of insignificance compared to the Joker.

Speculation had been rife about the sequel potentially being a musical. While the trailer features scenes of dancing and stage performances, director Todd Phillips clarified that ‘Joker 2’ is not a full-blown musical but will incorporate music as an “essential element” to the film.
