Julia Roberts Remembers Matthew Perry: Love, Loss And Fond Memories

Julia Roberts has broken her silence about her former beau, Matthew Perry, after his untimely demise in October. Perry, famed for his role as Chandler Bing on ‘Friends,’ was discovered lifeless in his Los Angeles residence’s hot tub on 28th October at the age of 54.

A private funeral took place on 3rd November. Roberts, who shared a three-month romance with Perry in the 1990s, recently shared her sentiments in an interview, expressing “all good thoughts and feelings” towards him. Reflecting on the tragic loss, she remarked, “The sudden passing of anybody so young is heartbreaking. I think that, you know, it just helps all of us appreciate what we have and to keep going in a positive way as best we can.”

Roberts, who made a cameo on ‘Friends’ in the 1996 episode ‘The One After the Superbowl, Part 2’, fondly recalled the experience, stating, “They were all so welcoming to me as just a kind of one-off character and it was a really fun time.”

A close friend of Perry revealed last month that the actor was feeling “happy” and “proud” before his demise, taking pride in the impact of his 2022 memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers And The Big Terrible Thing,’ on many people.

In the memoir, Matthew Perry detailed his relationship with Roberts, describing the joy of receiving her messages, saying, “Three or four times a day I would sit by my fax machine and watch the piece of paper slowly revealing her next missive. It was like she was placed on this planet to make the world smile and now, in particular, me. I was grinning like some 15-year-old on his first date.”

Following Perry’s passing, his ‘Friends’ co-stars—Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow—shared heartfelt individual tributes on their Instagram pages. Reports suggest that the cast is planning a special reunion to honour their late co-star at the upcoming Emmy Awards ceremony.

Perry’s official death certificate notes that the cause of death is still “deferred” after inconclusive initial autopsy results. However, the toxicology report ruled out an overdose as the cause of Perry’s demise.
