While speaking with W Magazine, Kate Hudson explained that preparing for the role felt refreshingly easy. She allowed herself to enjoy food without restrictions, gained about 15 pounds, and eased up on workouts. Filming took place over the holidays, which made the experience even more enjoyable. She also stepped away from her usual skincare habits and focused on simply enjoying life and being present.

Hudson described the process as freeing, noting that while she also enjoys being disciplined and active, this role allowed her to relax and embrace a softer version of herself.

'Song Sung Blue,' which premiered on Christmas Day, is inspired by the 2008 documentary of the same name and follows the early days of the band, along with Claire and Mike's relationship.

Kate Hudson And Hugh Jackman Praises Each Other

Ahead of the film's theatrical release, Hudson and Jackman spoke warmly about working together. At the 2025 Gotham Awards, Hudson praised Jackman for his rare ability to connect with people in any setting, whether on stage, on set, or one-on-one. Jackman returned the compliment, saying Hudson made him a stronger actor and highlighting her unique balance of preparation and instinct.

The two also reflected on the first time they sang together before filming began. Kate Hudson revealed that they recorded music before stepping on set, sitting together with microphones and figuring out how their voices would blend. At the time, they barely knew each other, which made the moment both uncertain and exciting.

Jackman recalled feeling nervous in the recording studio but said Hudson appeared completely at ease. As they sang, the process began to feel natural, even though many of the harmonies and duets were newly created for the film, since Neil Diamond's original songs were mostly solo performances.

Hudson later shared that those early recording sessions helped them find their rhythm as collaborators. Spending long hours in the studio allowed them to bond before portraying such a close and intimate married couple on screen, making their on-screen connection feel even more authentic.
