Katy Perry Recalls Wardrobe Mishap on Live 'American Idol' Broadcast

During an American Idol episode, Katy Perry encountered a slightly embarrassing incident when her top experienced a wardrobe malfunction while she was judging a contestant.

The mishap occurred just before Top 14 contender Roman Collins took the stage to perform 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World' by James Brown. Perry's silver sculptural crop top, designed by Kate Barton, seemed to come loose at the back.

In a behind-the-scenes video shared by Perry on Instagram after the show, she was shown being attended to by a group of crew members as they tried to fix her top while she remained seated at the judging panel. "I need my top to stay on," Perry mentioned in the clip, looking concerned at the camera. "If it’s not fixed, this show is going to get more than it wanted," she joked, referencing the potential wardrobe mishap.

Fellow Idol judge Luke Bryan intervened to assist, taking out a pair of small scissors and making an attempt to rectify the situation. However, he quickly changed his mind, and a voiceover slide appeared on the screen, indicating 'A few moments later...'

Perry was then shown in a clip from the same episode, wrapping her arms around her chest after the wardrobe incident. The segment concluded with Perry back in her seat, using a pillow to maintain her modesty.

Reflecting on the incident with Access Hollywood after the show, Perry remarked, "I wouldn’t call it a malfunction, I’ll just call it an interesting moment on live television." She added, "It seems like every season, I’m either tearing the seam of my pants or … I’m just super expressive physically! I just love this outfit so much and I knew I was rolling the dice but I was like, who cares?"
