'I Love Boosters' marks the first feature from writer-director Boots Riley since his 2018 cult hit 'Sorry to Bother You.' That film, which starred LaKeith Stanfield, earned critical acclaim and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature in 2019.

Riley recently revealed that Don Cheadle's role in the movie was originally meant to be a surprise. While sharing the film's poster on Instagram, he explained that the team ultimately decided to drop the secrecy and openly celebrate Cheadle's involvement, praising his performance in the film.
