Kid Cudi is Taking a Break From Music, Says “Next Year is All About Filming”

Kid Cudi has announced that he’ll be taking a break from the music scene for a year to focus on his blossoming career in film and television. January marked the release of the Ohio rapper’s 10th studio album, ‘INSANO,’ featuring trap-inspired tracks and collaborations with Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, DJ Drama, Pharrell and Travis Scott.

He followed up with the LP’s sequel, ‘INSANO (Nitro Mega),’ taking a more experimental and alternative route with contributions from Wiz Khalifa, Layzie and Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs ‘n’ Harmony and Pusha T. These albums also mark Cudi’s final releases under his Republic Records deal.

After dropping ‘Nitro Mega,’ Cudi shared on Twitter his plans for a music hiatus, hinting at new releases every other year. “My next album is already about 80 per cent done, and it’ll be out in 2026,” he shared. “Just wanted to let y’all know, expect an album from me every other year. Next year is all about filmin’. Got a bunch of stuff I need to get done. Film and TV. So I take a year off of music to do it all.”

In a 2022 Rolling Stone interview, Kid Cudi expressed his ambition to establish himself as a prominent actor alongside his music career. “Everything is possible,” he declared. “I’m going to be good at five things. I’m going to be good at six things. I’m going to be good at seven things. I am trying to tap into the full ability of my soul and make anything I ever dreamed of.”

The 40-year-old rapper made his acting debut in 2010 in the fashion drama ‘How to Make It in America’ and has since appeared in acclaimed shows like ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ (2013) and ‘Scorpion’ (2014) as well as films including ‘Don’t Look Up’ (2021) and ‘Trolls Band Together’ (2023).

In 2022, Kid Cudi co-created, co-produced, co-wrote and starred in the animated romantic comedy ‘Entergalactic,’ which premiered on Netflix. The feature-length television special received critical acclaim, winning an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Individual Achievement In Animation’ last year.
