zKim Kardashian recently broke her silence after facing criticism over her 12‑year‑old daughter North West's fashion choices. She addressed the criticism of North's attire, namely a corset and miniskirt ensemble she wore while on vacation in Rome, during an interview on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast. She urged both admirers and critics to exercise some grace. She talked candidly on the challenges of raising a teenager under continual scrutiny, parenting in the spotlight, and her daughter’s changing fashion sense.

The Backlash Over North's Style

Kim said that she has observed that some of North's more audacious attire has garnered a lot of attention, not necessarily in a good manner. Many fans thought that North’s outfit, which included knee-high boots, a short skirt, a black corset-style top, and blue hair, was too sophisticated for a child her age when they were in Rome.

The skirt and boots alone could be acceptable, but wearing them with a corset felt like an adult costume for a teenager, according to some commentators who deemed the ensemble "inappropriate." Meanwhile, Kim supported North's freedom to try new looks, pointing out that her daughter's clothing choices are frequently influenced by what her peers are wearing and that occasionally, looking back, she may make a different decision.

Although she admitted that some of her costumes might have been a mistake—"we made that mistake in front of the whole world"—but she emphasized on the fact that she is still learning how to navigate parenting amidst the spotlight.

A Mother's Request for Understanding

Kim urged both sides to be understanding as she discussed the topic. She acknowledged that parenting is not a flawless science, particularly in light of the way that social media and the media magnify every decision, saying, "All I'm asking for is a little bit of grace." She went on to say that although she occasionally makes poor decisions, especially when letting North try out daring looks, she wants her daughter to feel strong, creative, and loved.

Kim also added about how North has grown up surrounded by the glam world—sitting in her lap while makeup was applied, watching her glam team at work—and how that early exposure influences North’s interest in beauty and fashion.

Although Kim has openly stated that she is the primary caregiver and occasionally feels like a single parent because of the difficulties of raising four children mostly by herself, she has been co-parenting their children ever since.
