Lady Gaga Unveils Her Unique Take on Harley Quinn in Upcoming Film 'Joker: Folie à Deux'

Lady Gaga is set to bring her own flair to the iconic character Harley Quinn in the highly anticipated 'Joker: Folie à Deux.' Known for her dynamic presence both on stage and screen, Gaga’s involvement in the Joker franchise has created considerable buzz among fans and critics alike.

Teaming up with Joaquin Phoenix, who reprises his role as the Joker, Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn promises to be a fresh and unique interpretation.

Currently, Lady Gaga is promoting her concert documentary 'Gaga: Chromatica Ball,' which provides an in-depth look at her creative process, from makeup and costume design to stage production. During an interview with Access Hollywood, she shared some insights into her role in 'Joker: Folie à Deux.'

Gaga emphasized that her version of Harley Quinn is distinct and deeply tied to the film's unique narrative. “This version of Harley is mine,” she said, noting the character’s authenticity to both the movie and its complex storyline. “I’ve never done anything like this before,” she added, describing the experience as “completely brand new and really fun.”

The upcoming film, directed by Todd Phillips, will be a musical, adding another layer of innovation to the DC Studios project. Despite featuring characters from the DC comics, 'Joker: Folie à Deux' stands apart from the evolving DC universe being crafted by Peter Safran and James Gunn. Instead, it belongs to the DC Elseworlds series, which explores alternative stories and settings.

Margot Robbie, who previously brought Harley Quinn to life in the DC Extended Universe, has expressed her support for Gaga’s casting. Robbie, who garnered acclaim for her portrayal of the character, remarked that she’s pleased to see Harley Quinn become a role that can be reinterpreted by different actors over time, similar to Batman. "It’s such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough,” Robbie said, “that now other actors can explore this character.”

'Joker: Folie à Deux' is scheduled to hit theatres on 4th October 2024.
