Lady Gaga’s Paris Olympics Performance Almost Canceled

In a recent interview with Variety, renowned choreographer Maud le Pladec shared her experiences and challenges faced during Lady Gaga’s unforgettable performance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics. The event, which took place by the Seine River in Paris, was marked by a stunning rendition of Zizi Jeanmaire’s ‘Mon Truc en Plumes,’ performed on a golden staircase.
Le Pladec described the preparations as “extremely cautious,” primarily due to unpredictable weather conditions. She revealed that the original plan was for Gaga to perform live on July 26. However, with rain threatening the event, the team decided to film the performance earlier in the day.

This last-minute change was made to ensure the safety of all involved while still delivering a seamless show. Le Pladec mentioned that they closely monitored the weather, adjusting their plans as needed to accommodate the evolving situation.
Despite these challenges, the performance was a resounding success, captivating audiences worldwide. Gaga, known for her bold fashion choices, wore a stunning Dior Haute Couture outfit that included heels—a choice that added an extra layer of risk given the slippery conditions near the river.
The performance was not only notable for its artistic quality but also for its historical significance. It marked the first time an Olympic opening act was held outside a stadium, setting a new precedent for future games. The event was a significant moment in Olympic history, reflecting both the cultural heritage of Paris and the innovative spirit of the games.

Following the event, Gaga took to social media to share her thoughts on the experience, describing it as “a gift I’ll never forget.” She expressed her gratitude for being chosen to perform and highlighted her deep connection to French culture. Gaga’s choice of song was a tribute to the French people, acknowledging their rich contributions to the arts, music, and theatre. She emphasized her desire to honour French culture through her performance, aiming to create an unforgettable homage to Paris.
In her heartfelt message, Gaga thanked the French people for the opportunity to perform in such a prestigious setting. She spoke about her dedication to learning French choreography and her meticulous preparation for the show, underscoring her commitment to delivering a memorable performance. Gaga’s message concluded with a heartfelt expression of appreciation, describing the event as an enduring gift that she would cherish forever.
