Lenny Kravitz Reveals 9-Year Relationship Hiatus and Commitment to Celibacy

Lenny Kravitz is waiting for the right person. In a new interview with The Guardian, the 60-year-old ‘Blue Electric Light’ artist discussed his relationship status. Kravitz revealed that he hasn’t had a serious relationship in nine years and is committed to celibacy during this period. “Yes. It’s a spiritual thing,” he explained.

Although he hopes to find love, any potential partner will need to adapt to the ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’ singer’s established lifestyle. “I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live,” Kravitz noted.

Back in 2008, he told Maxim about his decision to remain celibate until marriage, emphasising the importance of connecting on a deeper level beyond physical attraction. “Where I’m at in life, the women have got to come with something else, not just the body, but the mind and spirit,” he said. “It usually trips them out, but that’s the way it’s going to be. I’m looking at the big picture.”

In a July 2011 interview with Details, Kravitz acknowledged that his celibacy remarks might have been blown out of proportion. “I said it, and it just got blown way out of proportion,” he remarked.

During a recent interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, King humorously asked about Kravitz’s love life. “Asking for a friend — Is there love in your life? Do you have a significant other in your life? And can I beat her ass if she is?” she joked.

Kravitz, initially surprised by the question, laughed and responded that he is currently open to finding love. “Right now, I’m just open,” he said. When King asked if he was actively looking for someone special, he replied, “It’s hard not to look. You know when you desire something you’re looking for it, right? But I find that when you don’t look is when you find it.”

Kravitz admitted that he previously thought he was ready for a serious relationship, but now feels genuinely prepared. “I can say that I’ve never felt how I feel now,” he shared. Kravitz was married to Lisa Bonet from 1987 to 1993, with whom he has a daughter, Zoë, born in 1988. He has also been linked to Vanessa Paradis, Adriana Lima, and Nicole Kidman.
