Leo Woodall Joins Cast For ‘Bridget Jones’ Sequel

Leo Woodall, known for his breakout role in Netflix’s ‘One Day,’ is gearing up to join the cast of ‘Bridget Jones 4.’

Following the success of three film adaptations based on Helen Fielding’s novels, production for the fourth installment is on the horizon, as reported by the BBC. The film, titled ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy,’ is set to hit US screens on 14th February 2025, with a UK release date yet to be announced.

Based on Fielding’s 2013 book, the upcoming film reunites audiences with the beloved character Bridget Jones as she navigates her 50s as a widowed mother of two. Mark Darcy, portrayed by Colin Firth in the previous films, will not be making an appearance in the fourth instalment. Fielding reportedly scripted Mark’s death from a landmine, aiming to prevent Bridget from falling into the cliché of being a “smug married.”

Fans can look forward to the return of Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver, the charismatic antagonist, who was absent from the third film, ‘Bridget Jones’ Baby.’ The movie kicks off with Daniel’s presumed death in a plane crash, setting the stage for his character’s arc. Additionally, Emma Thompson, who garnered acclaim for her role in the previous film, will reprise her role as Bridget’s obstetrician.

Joining the cast is award-winning actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, along with Leo Woodall, who gained praise for his portrayal of Dexter Mayhew in the Netflix adaptation of David Nicholls’ ‘One Day.’ Woodall is set to take on the role of Bridget’s younger love interest in the upcoming film.

The preceding film in the franchise revolved around Bridget’s pregnancy dilemma, unsure whether Mark or a charming man named Jack, played by Patrick Dempsey, is the father. ‘Bridget Jones’ Baby’ received positive reviews and achieved significant box office success, grossing over $210 million worldwide.
