Leonardo DiCaprio is taking on a very different kind of action role in 'One Battle After Another,' the upcoming adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel 'Vineland.'
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film follows a group of former revolutionaries who reunite when a long-buried enemy resurfaces after 16 years. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Bob Ferguson, a man caught between fatherhood and survival, with Regina Hall co-starring as Deandra.
Leonardo DiCaprio's Views on His Recent Role
In a recent interview, DiCaprio explained that his character is not the typical action hero. Unlike Tom Cruise’s polished Ethan Hunt in 'Mission: Impossible,' Bob is constantly fumbling his way through crises. The actor described him as a father struggling to raise his daughter, who suddenly finds himself in a desperate rescue mission when she is kidnapped. Instead of executing flawless stunts, Bob makes mistakes at every turn, which DiCaprio noted is what makes the role so compelling.

The star-studded cast also includes Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and Sean Penn. Del Toro revealed that working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio was a career highlight, saying he has admired his work for decades and shaped his own performance around what DiCaprio brought to the screen.
