Malala Yousafzai Makes Acting Debut With Cowgirl Cameo in ‘We Are Lady Parts’
Malala Yousafzai ventures into acting with a surprise appearance in the latest season of the British sitcom ‘We Are Lady Parts.’
The 26-year-old activist graces the screen in a brief but memorable cameo during an episode titled ‘Malala Made Me Do It.’ In this instalment, the cast of the show, led by Anjana Vasan, Sarah Kameela Impey, Juliette Motamed, Lucie Shorthouse, and Faith Omole, breaks into a country song named after the episode. Yousafzai joins the fantasy sequence, emerging in Western and Pakistani-inspired attire while perched on a prop horse.

While Yousafzai has previously collaborated behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, including a multiyear programming deal with Apple in 2021, she expressed surprise at finding herself in front of the camera. “I’m finally showing my hidden talent,” she humorously remarked to Vogue.
The invitation for Yousafzai’s appearance came from showrunner Nida Manzoor, who outlined the concept to her in a letter. Initially unsure about what to expect, Yousafzai found herself impressed by the elaborate set and relieved to discover she had no dialogue, making filming much simpler.
Yousafzai commended ‘We Are Lady Parts’ for its portrayal of Muslim girls’ stories, emphasizing the importance of humanizing individuals, especially in conflict-ridden regions like Gaza and Afghanistan.
‘We Are Lady Parts’ follows a Muslim women’s punk-rock band as they navigate relationships, friendships, and cultural dynamics while pursuing their musical aspirations. The series, lauded by critics, received multiple BAFTA and Gotham Award nominations for its first season and premiered its second season in full on Peacock.
