Michael B. Jordan Shares Update on ‘I Am Legend 2’ With Will Smith

Michael B. Jordan has given fans an update on the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 post-apocalyptic thriller, ‘I Am Legend.’ In a conversation with PEOPLE, Jordan shared that he and the team are “still working on the script and getting that up to par.” Although there’s no set release date or confirmed filming locations, Jordan expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him.”

Will Smith, who starred in the original film as scientist Robert Neville, is set to reprise his role. Jordan, reflecting on the opportunity to work with Smith, said, “Being somebody that I’ve looked up to for a really long time, to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited.”

Details about ‘I Am Legend 2’ remain sparse, but it’s known that the sequel will ignore the original film’s ending in favour of the alternate ending from the DVD version. The sequel’s producer and writer, Akiva Goldsman, confirmed last year that the film will include a significant time jump. “This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman explained. “I’m obsessed with ‘The Last of Us,’ where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse.”

The original ‘I Am Legend,’ directed by Francis Lawrence, was adapted from Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel. The film features Will Smith as Robert Neville, a virologist and the sole survivor of a man-made plague that turns humans into bloodthirsty monsters. Neville’s struggle to find a cure and his battle for survival captivated audiences, setting high expectations for the upcoming sequel.
