Nicolas Cage Set to Star in ‘Spider-Man Noir’ Live-Action Series

Nicolas Cage is set to reprise his role as ‘Spider-Man Noir,’ but this time in a live-action series. The show, titled ‘Noir,’ has been picked up by MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. Initially, it will premiere on MGM+’s channel in the US before being launched globally on Prime Video. The news of the series’ development broke in February 2023, though Cage’s involvement wasn’t confirmed at that time.

This announcement came just before Amazon’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Tuesday. Vernon Sanders, the head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “Expanding the Marvel universe with ‘Noir’ is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honoured to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers.

“The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero, and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise most authentically,” he continued.

Cage previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in the award-winning animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ This will be the first live-action portrayal of the character. According to the official description, ‘Noir’ follows an ageing and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who must confront his past as the city’s only superhero.

The series is developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They are joined by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal from the ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ team, all of whom will also executive produce. Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes, with Pascal producing through Pascal Pictures. The series is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal at Sony.

Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character. Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
