No, Ryan Reynolds Isn't Dancing to 'Bye Bye Bye' in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'

In the opening credits of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, viewers are treated to a scene where Reynolds' masked superhero appears to dance to the iconic choreography from NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ music video. However, as Reynolds and co-writer revealed during a recent press conference, it is choreographer Nick Pauley who is actually performing those moves.

Reynolds, speaking with Ashley and Company, clarified, “He’s doing a lot of the moves that have been established previously by *NSYNC. If it looks like the person who’s dancing doesn’t have arthritis, that’s him.” This humorous remark highlights that while Reynolds may be in the suit, it’s Pauley’s skilled choreography that’s on display.

The scene in question is set against the backdrop of Deadpool desecrating Wolverine’s grave, following the ‘X-Men’ character's death in the film ‘Logan’. As ‘Deadpool’, Reynolds’ character uses Wolverine’s adamantium bones to fight off members of the Time Variance Authority, all while dancing to *NSYNC’s hit song. Pauley, credited as “Dancepool” in the film, brings a unique flair to the sequence.

Pauley, known for his work on the 2020 film ‘The Prom’ and music videos for artists such as Katy Perry and Doja Cat, showcased his talents in this memorable scene. Reynolds noted that while there are moments of pop and lock in the dance routine, “The pop really pops like it cracks. And the lock will not unlock.” This distinction underscores Pauley’s contribution to the film’s choreography.

Expressing his appreciation, Reynolds remarked, “I will hang on Nick Pauley’s talent. I will hang my hat on his talent there and thank him for his contribution and services.” Pauley himself took to social media to celebrate his role as Reynolds’ “double for the opening scene of the entire movie!!! Like what?!? What is life?”

Pauley also expressed gratitude to Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, acknowledging their encouragement and enthusiasm. He shared a video of himself learning and practising the *NSYNC choreographed on short notice as part of his audition for the role, demonstrating his dedication and skill in bringing the dance sequence to life.
