Pixar’s beloved superhero family is officially set to return, with fresh updates on the long-awaited third installment of the ‘Incredibles’ franchise. Peter Sohn, known for directing ‘Elemental’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’, has been selected to helm ‘Incredibles 3’. This marks a shift from the earlier assumption that Brad Bird, who directed the first two films, would return to the director’s chair.
However, fans can rest easy knowing Bird remains closely involved with the project. He will serve as the writer for the upcoming film, while Sohn takes the lead on direction. The plot is still in development, and no release date or casting details have been announced yet.
Bird and Pixar chief Pete Docter were reportedly instrumental in choosing Sohn for the role. The two share a long-standing creative relationship, with Bird having collaborated with Sohn on his previous films. According to sources, Bird’s decision to step away from directing ‘Incredibles 3’ is due to his packed schedule, which includes working on two major projects: the sci-fi noir ‘Ray Gunn’ at Skydance and the long-delayed historical epic ‘1906’ for Disney.

Final Chapter of the ‘Incredibles’ Trilogy Takes Shape
While early in production, the project is being positioned as the concluding chapter of a potential trilogy. Sohn’s experience with emotionally complex storytelling in ‘The Good Dinosaur’ and expansive world-building in ‘Elemental’ makes him a fitting successor to carry on the legacy of the Parr family.
Though few details have emerged, the combination of Sohn’s vision and Bird’s writing has generated early excitement, promising another superpowered adventure for Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and their heroic brood.
