With just days to go before the theatrical release—and only weeks before its Netflix debut—'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' is already generating major excitement. The third film in Rian Johnson's acclaimed murder-mystery series brings Daniel Craig back as detective Benoit Blanc, this time surrounded by another star-packed ensemble featuring Josh O'Connor, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, and several more high-profile names.

Because this film marks the second entry in Johnson's two-sequel deal with Netflix following the breakout success of 'Knives Out,' fans are naturally wondering whether this latest chapter will be the final one.

Future of 'Knives Out'

Even before the movie hits theatres, speculation about the franchise's future is growing quickly. Rian Johnson has hinted that both he and Craig are eager to continue telling Benoit Blanc stories, and he recently shared that the two have already begun brainstorming what a potential fourth film could look like.

He also noted that completing 'Wake Up Dead Man' left him feeling creatively energised, suggesting that there is still plenty of momentum behind the series.

'Wake Up Dead Man' Already Winning Over Critics

If a fourth film does happen, it will have a high standard to meet—especially when it comes to assembling another standout cast. 'Wake Up Dead Man' features an impressive roster that, in addition to Craig and the already-mentioned stars, includes Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church, Jeremy Renner, and Cailee Spaeny.

The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to strong acclaim. Netflix's official synopsis describes the story as centring on a shocking, seemingly impossible murder that destabilises a small town. Mila Kunis plays local police chief Geraldine Scott, who seeks Benoit Blanc's help in solving a case that appears to defy all logic.

'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' arrives on Netflix on 12th December 2025, with early buzz signalling that another hit is on the way—and that the franchise’s future may be brighter than ever.
