Robert Pattinson's ‘Mickey 17’ Gets 2025 Release Date

Bong Joon-ho's much-anticipated film, 'Mickey 17,' has finally secured a new release date, slated for 31st January 2025, as confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures. This announcement comes after the movie faced an indefinite delay last month due to the repercussions of the SAG-AFTRA strike in the summer of 2023, causing disruptions in the post-production phase.

Initially scheduled to hit screens on 29th March this year, 'Mickey 17' was unfortunately removed from Warner Bros. Pictures' release schedule, making room for 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,' which was brought forward by two weeks to fill its slot.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the fresh 2025 release date for 'Mickey 17' will also pave the way for its screening in IMAX format. This would not have been feasible with a 2024 release, given that all IMAX slots for the year were already allocated to other projects.

For Bong Joon-ho, 'Mickey 17' marks his first directorial venture since the critically acclaimed 'Parasite' in 2019, which clinched the coveted Best Picture award at the subsequent Academy Awards and went on to become the highest-grossing Korean film in history.

While a full-length trailer for 'Mickey 17' is yet to hit screens, a tantalising teaser was unveiled in December 2022. The teaser spotlights lead actor Robert Pattinson, portraying the titular character, as he appears sedated within a futuristic container. The camera pans dramatically towards Pattinson, capturing the moment his eyes snap open.

Based on the Edward Ashton novel 'Mickey 7,' released in February of the same year, 'Mickey 17' promises to be a gripping adaptation. Plot details surrounding Joon-ho's interpretation remain under wraps, but the film is said to revolve around an employee embarking on an expedition to colonise an ice world, harbouring reservations about being replaced by his clone.
