Robert Pattinson is officially returning as Gotham’s brooding vigilante in 'The Batman Part II', with filming scheduled to begin in spring 2026. The news was confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery in its latest shareholder letter, marking the long-awaited progress on the sequel to 2022’s 'The Batman'.

The follow-up to Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed reboot was initially announced during CinemaCon in April 2022, with both Reeves and Pattinson locked in to return. The sequel is now slated for a theatrical release in October 2027, more than five years after the first film debuted.

More projects are in The Pipeline

The recent shareholder letter not only confirmed movement on 'The Batman Part II', but also highlighted DC Studios’ broader slate under co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Upcoming projects include 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow', 'Clayface', and a new Wonder Woman movie. Gunn’s 'Superman' film, which premiered in July 2025, has already proven to be a box office hit.

Other upcoming projects on the way include the second season of 'Peacemaker' and the much-awaited launch of 'Lanterns'. The studio emphasised that the DC Universe remains one of its most valuable intellectual properties, praising the unified creative direction now guiding the franchise.

Delays Are a Recurring Issue

Despite the excitement surrounding the sequel, delays have been a recurring issue. Originally slated for release in October 2025, 'The Batman Part II' was postponed multiple times, with the most recent reschedule placing its premiere in October 2027. Gunn responded to concerns about the delay by pointing out that multi-year gaps between sequels are common, citing major franchises such as 'Top Gun', 'Alien', and 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

In a 2025 interview, Robert Pattinson playfully commented on the long delay, joking that at this rate, he might end up starring as “old Batman” instead of the younger version he was originally cast to play. When reminded by his 'Mickey 17' co-star Naomi Ackie that he was still in his 30s, Robert Pattinson humorously insisted that at 38, he already felt old.

The first 'Batman' movie included Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, with Paul Dano playing The Riddler and Colin Farrell taking on the role of The Penguin. Farrell later reprised his role in the 2024 HBO Max spinoff series 'The Penguin', which further expanded the gritty world introduced by Reeves.

As anticipation builds, 'The Batman Part II' remains a cornerstone of Warner Bros. Discovery’s cinematic roadmap. With production beginning in 2026 and a 2027 release locked in, fans can expect a fresh return to the noir-inspired Gotham that reinvigorated the 'Batman' legacy.
