Scarlett Johansson is no longer the highest-grossing actress of all time, as 'Avatar' star Zoe Saldaña has officially taken the top spot.
Zoe Saldaña's rise to number one comes after the release of the latest James Cameron blockbuster, 'Avatar: Fire and Ash.' The film pushed her total global box office earnings to about $15.46 billion, narrowly surpassing Johansson, who stands just behind her with roughly $15.40 billion, according to box office tracking site The Numbers.
Zoe Saldaña's Massive Success
Saldaña’s massive total is driven by her roles in some of the biggest franchises in movie history. Alongside the 'Avatar' films, she has been a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 'Star Trek' series, all of which have delivered huge worldwide ticket sales.

The highest-ranking male actor on the list is Samuel L. Jackson, whose films have earned around $14.6 billion. He appears in significantly more movies than the actresses ahead of him, which highlights how dominant Saldaña's franchise roles have been.
Zoe Saldaña's Mainstream Fame
Zoe Saldaña first rose to mainstream fame in the late 2000s. She played Lieutenant Uhura in J.J. Abrams' 2009 'Star Trek' reboot and returned for its sequels. That same year, she starred as Neytiri in 'Avatar,' which remains the highest-grossing film of all time.
Her box office success continued when she joined the Marvel universe as Gamora in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' in 2016. She reprised the role in multiple sequels and played a major part in 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame,' both among the biggest films ever released.

Beyond blockbuster hits, Zoe Saldaña also earned major critical acclaim last year. She won a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for her performance in the Spanish-language drama 'Emilia Pérez,' marking a major achievement in her career.
While Johansson has been edged out of the top spot, she remains a major box office force. She recently starred in the successful sequel 'Jurassic World Rebirth' and is reportedly in talks to appear in 'The Batman Part II' alongside Robert Pattinson and Sebastian Stan.
