Ice skating icon Scott Hamilton has confronted fear throughout his life, overcoming challenges from learning to skate as a child to coping with the loss of his mother to breast cancer in 1977. His resilience was tested again in 1997 when he battled and successfully recovered from testicular cancer through surgery and chemotherapy.
In 2016, Hamilton faced another daunting challenge as he learned about the recurrence of a pituitary tumour in his brain for the third time. However, unlike previous instances, he confidently chose not to pursue treatment.

Despite the surgeon's proposal for a complicated surgery, Hamilton, having undergone brain surgeries in 2004 and 2010, opted against it, emphasizing the need to focus on regaining strength. His decision proved beneficial, with subsequent scans showing a remarkable 45% reduction in the tumour.
While the tumour continued to shrink initially, a subsequent check revealed growth. Considering the challenges posed by the onset of COVID-19 and the difficulty of hospital visits, Hamilton decided to remain at peace with the situation unless symptoms emerged.
Acknowledging that not everyone may comprehend his plan, Hamilton remains open to future treatment, especially with the availability of targeted radiation therapy.

Turning 65 and celebrating the 40th anniversary of his 1984 Sarajevo Olympics gold medal win, Hamilton reflects on a life that surpassed his wildest dreams. His Scott Hamilton CARES foundation has contributed to cutting-edge cancer research, and the Stars on Ice tour, initiated in 1986, continues to thrive.
Grateful for his achievements and family, Hamilton expresses awe at the unforeseen impact of his Olympic success, the establishment of a cancer organization, and the creation of opportunities for talented skaters.
