Sophie Turner Takes on Multiple Roles and Evades Police in First ‘Joan’ Teaser

Sophie Turner is making waves with her latest role as ‘Joan’! The 28-year-old ‘Game of Thrones’ alum excited fans by sharing the first look at her new ITVX series, ‘Joan’, on Instagram. The six-part series, based on the true story of Joan Hannington, one of Britain’s most infamous diamond thieves, portrays Turner as ‘Joan’ in her 20s.

According to the show’s synopsis, ‘Joan’ is a “fiery, uncompromising, and intoxicating character” with deep scars and vulnerability. Despite being a “doting and loving young mother to four-year-old Debbie,” she is trapped in a “disastrous marriage to a violent thug.” When he goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to leave her old life behind, making heartbreaking decisions to secure a better future for herself and her daughter.

In the teaser, Turner showcases Joan’s various personas. The clip starts with ‘Joan’ applying makeup and donning a short wig. Throughout the teaser, she transforms into different characters while evading the police and navigating dangerous situations. In one scene, ‘Joan’, with a brunette bob, approaches a little girl, likely her daughter, and gestures for silence. Another scene shows her breaking into a room and eyeing a collection of valuable rings.

Words like “Mother, lover, liar, thief” flash across the trailer. While filming ‘Joan’ in September 2023, news of Turner’s separation from her husband Joe Jonas broke. In her British Vogue June 2024 cover story, Turner described the aftermath of the split as “the worst few days of my life.”

She recalled being unable to leave the set of ‘Joan’ despite her desire to be with her children in the States. Headlines about Jonas filing for divorce added to her distress. “It’s unfathomable the amount of people that will just make things up and publish them based on a picture,” she said. “A picture might tell a thousand words, but it’s not my story.”

Turner admitted feeling like she was watching a movie of her life that she had no control over. “It was shocking. I’m still in shock,” she stated. Her lawyer eventually reminded her of what truly mattered, telling her, “It was my children I was fighting for.”
