The play is scheduled to commence its performances at the Marquis Theatre, marking a significant milestone in the world of theatrical adaptations. The official opening of this Broadway rendition is set to follow soon after, promising an engaging experience for audiences.
‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ is crafted from an original narrative developed by the creators of the series, the Duffer Brothers, along with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne and Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry. This stage adaptation is deeply rooted in the rich mythology and universe of the beloved TV show.
The storyline transports audiences back to Hawkins, Indiana, but takes place in 1959, well before the events of the series, which is set in the 1980s. The narrative explores the early lives of characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado (later known as Joyce Byers), and Bob Newby—characters originally portrayed by David Harbour, Winona Ryder, and Sean Astin, respectively.
The plot unfolds as these young characters navigate their teenage years and encounter the mysterious new student, Henry Creel, who eventually becomes the infamous villain Vecna, known from the series’ fourth season.
