Milly Alcock takes centre stage in the first official trailer for 'Supergirl,' introducing a fresh and imperfect version of the beloved DC hero. The newly released footage opens with Kara Zor-El making a bold declaration that she intends to make the year ahead her best yet, setting the tone for a spirited and rebellious take on the character.

Following David Corenswet's cinematic debut as 'Superman' earlier this year, Alcock, 25, now steps into the role of his Kryptonian cousin as the DC Universe continues to expand. Warner Bros. unveiled the trailer on 11th December, pairing the action with Blondie's rock anthem 'Call Me' and kicking things off with a comedic moment featuring Krypto the Superdog.

What's in the 'Supergirl' Trailer?

The trailer paints a picture of a Supergirl who is still finding her footing. Kara wakes up hungover after a night of partying and tries to hype herself up for a better year, admitting to herself that she doesn't need to clear a very high bar. From there, the footage transforms into a fast-paced montage of high-flying action, showcasing Kara in her iconic suit along with glimpses at new characters, alien creatures, and intense battles.

Kara also reflects on the difference between her and 'Superman,' noting that while Clark tends to see the good in everyone, she focuses on confronting the truth, even when it’s difficult. The film picks up after her cameo at the end of 'Superman,' where she drunkenly visited Clark at the Fortress of Solitude and claimed Krypto as her own.

Milly Alcock's Excitement For 'Supergirl'

During a special 'Supergirl' teaser trailer watch party in New York City, Milly Alcock spoke about her excitement for fans to witness the artistry behind the movie. She expressed how proud she is of the thousands of crew members who built the film’s worlds, designed its aliens, and brought its visual effects to life, and she hopes audiences recognise the massive effort behind the scenes.

Production on 'Supergirl' officially wrapped earlier this year, with director Craig Gillespie—known for I, Tonya—leading the project. James Gunn revealed the milestone on Instagram Threads in May, and both he and Alcock later shared posters promoting the film. Continuing the playful theme of the 'Superman' marketing, the new tagline urges viewers to look out.

The cast features Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara's parents. Jason Momoa also returns to the DC Universe, this time as the anti-hero Lobo.

New Version of 'Supergirl'

At the watch party, Gillespie explained that this version of 'Supergirl' enters the story carrying emotional weight, facing personal demons that set her apart from her more idealistic cousin. Gunn added that the film draws inspiration from Tom King and Bilquis Evely's acclaimed comic 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.' What attracted him to the story was its potential to showcase a different kind of female superhero—one who is flawed, complex, and unapologetically imperfect, much like many male heroes have been allowed to be.

The film is part of Gunn’s evolving DC Universe slate, which continues after 'Supergirl' with 'Clayface,' starring Tom Rhys Harries and set for release on 11th September. A sequel to 'Superman,' titled 'Man of Tomorrow,' is scheduled to hit theatres on 9th July 2027.

'Supergirl' arrives in theatres on 26th June 2026.
