In the film, Sweeney plays Sister Cecilia, an American nun who discovers horrifying secrets in a monastery in rural Italy. As Cecilia, a virgin, discovers she is pregnant, the tension builds, building to a suspenseful and graphic conclusion.

According to Variety’s Stephen Saito, ‘Immaculate’ has received praise for eschewing theological clichés, setting it apart from normal religious horror tropes. Sweeney revealed to Variety that she has been a part of the project since she was a teenager, even before she had an audition for ‘Euphoria.’

She said, “The script has been in development for ten years.” “It was a different version when I tried out for it at the age of sixteen. Together with the author, Andrew Lobel, I went over the first manuscript again and made changes that kept the main ideas and plots while reflecting my current self. One of the recurrent themes that persisted was a pertinent subject that regrettably is still up for debate today.”
