Background on 'Gundam' Adaptation

The live-action 'Gundam' adaptation has been in development since 2021. The project was initially attached to director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, but the film has since shifted creative direction. Jim Mickle, best known for his work on 'Sweet Tooth,' is now set to both write and direct. At this stage, plot details, casting information, and a production timeline remain unconfirmed, especially as Sydney Sweeney continues filming the next season of 'Euphoria.'

The 'Gundam' franchise holds legendary status in anime history. First launched in 1979 by creators Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino, the saga introduced audiences to massive mobile suits used in futuristic wars.

Over the decades, 'Gundam' has grown into a cultural powerhouse, spawning more than 50 anime series, numerous films, manga, novels, video games, and the globally successful Gunpla model kits. Widely credited with shaping the mecha anime genre, 'Gundam' continues to influence science fiction and pop culture around the world.
