The ‘Barbie’ Universe Might be Expanding With A ‘Ken’ Sequel

Greta Gerwig, the genius behind the ‘Barbie’ phenomenon, has stirred up excitement by hinting at a potential spinoff centred around Ken, the iconic doll’s steadfast companion. In a recent interview, when prodded about the possibility of a Ken-focused movie, Gerwig intriguingly responded, “I mean the truth is, you know… I guess we’ll see.”

While she didn’t confirm anything, her reply has set minds racing with speculation about the next moves in the ‘Barbie’ universe.

Adding fuel to the fire, Gerwig disclosed that there existed a surplus of material dedicated to Ken during the production of ‘Barbie,’ material that ultimately didn’t find its way into the final script. “We had too much material for Ken. We would write, write and write,” she shared, leaving fans pondering over the untapped potential of Ken’s character.

We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something,”

Barbie’s global earnings reached an impressive $1.4 billion, marking it as the highest-grossing stop-motion film ever directed by a woman. As it concludes its theatrical run, there’s a substantial chance it might surpass ‘Frozen II’ (with $1.45 billion), co-directed by Lee and claim the title of the highest-grossing film globally directed by a woman.
