Isabela Merced is stepping into another action-packed role. The 'The Last of Us' and 'Superman' actor has been cast as the lead in a new live-action adaptation of 'The House Of The Dead,' directed by 'Resident Evil' filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson.
About 'The House Of The Dead'
Originally released by Sega in 1997, 'The House Of The Dead' became a hit arcade horror shooter. The fast-paced game had players battling waves of zombies before facing off against terrifying boss creatures. It went on to spawn five sequels and several spin-offs, and along with 'Resident Evil,' it helped revive the zombie genre in the late '90s.

The franchise previously made it to the big screen with a 2003 prequel film and a direct-to-DVD sequel. However, neither movie was embraced by fans. Now, a fresh adaptation is officially in the works.
What is New 'The House Of The Dead' Movie About?
Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing multiple 'Resident Evil' films starring Milla Jovovich, will write and direct the new movie. According to reports, the story will draw inspiration from 2002's 'The House Of The Dead 3.' That game is set in a near-future world devastated by a zombie outbreak. It follows a character named Lisa as she searches for her missing father, who disappeared while investigating the cause of the apocalypse.

Anderson has said that he has loved the game for many years and is excited to bring it to theatres with Isabela Merced leading the story. He sees the project as the beginning of a major film franchise that can explore the detailed world and lore Sega created across the games.
Sega producer Toru Nakahara also shared his enthusiasm, explaining that Merced is a perfect fit for the heroic role and brings strong energy to the production. He added that the team aims to create a visually striking and immersive movie filled with compelling performances and terrifying creatures, delivering an exciting cinematic experience for longtime fans.
Isabela Merced is also expected to return for season three of 'The Last of Us,' which HBO has indicated will conclude that series' story.
