Benedict Cumberbatch is taking audiences on an intense emotional journey in his latest psychological drama, 'The Thing With Feathers.' After a year filled with standout performances, including his praised role opposite Olivia Colman in 'The Roses,' the actor returns with one of his most powerful and chilling portrayals to date.
The film, directed by Dylan Southern, opens in theatres on 28th November 2025, and Collider has debuted an exclusive new trailer and image from the upcoming release.
What Does 'The Thing With Feathers' Trailer Offer?
In the newly revealed still, Cumberbatch's character is seen walking hand in hand with his two children through a desolate snowy landscape—a haunting visual that perfectly captures the film's atmosphere of grief, isolation, and emotional unravelling.
The trailer expands on that tone, following a widowed father whose life begins to spiral after the sudden death of his wife. His mourning soon takes a surreal turn when he begins to believe that a crow haunting his home is tormenting him, pushing him to the edge of sanity.
The film also stars Jessie Cave and features the voice of David Thewlis as the ominous crow.
What is 'The Thing With Feathers' About?
'The Thing With Feathers' is adapted from Max Porter's acclaimed novella 'Grief Is the Thing with Feathers,' known for its poetic exploration of love, loss, and the human need to heal after tragedy.
At its core, the film is a raw and unflinching look at the chaos of grief—how it can distort reality and consume those left behind. Early reviews from the Sundance Film Festival praised the movie for its emotional honesty and atmospheric direction, describing it as deeply affecting, disturbing, yet profoundly cathartic for anyone who has experienced loss.

Cumberbatch's portrayal of a man unravelling under the weight of sorrow is already generating awards-season buzz, with critics highlighting his ability to capture both fragility and fury in equal measure. Combined with Southern's visionary storytelling and A24-style visual minimalism, 'The Thing With Feathers' is shaping up to be one of the most haunting films of the year.
The movie lands in theatres on 28th November, promising a mesmerising exploration of grief, madness, and the fragile bond between life and memory.
