Tim Burton Casts Doubt on 'Beetlejuice 3': Says Chances Are Slim

Despite growing speculation about a third 'Beetlejuice' film, Tim Burton has cast serious doubt on the possibility of 'Beetlejuice 3' becoming a reality any time soon.

Following the successful release of 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' in 2024—a sequel nearly four decades in the making—rumours began circulating that a third film might be on the way. The sequel, which reunited Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara, also introduced Jenna Ortega to the eccentric world of the undead, earning both critical praise and box office success.

However, in a recent interview, Tim Burton appeared surprised by the idea of a third instalment, suggesting that he had heard nothing official about it. The filmmaker jokingly remarked that he might have been left out of the loop or even replaced, underscoring how unexpected the rumours were from his perspective.

Tim Burton Returns to 'Beetlejuice 3'?

When questioned about the possibility of coming back for another sequel, Tim Burton expressed uncertainty and seemed reluctant to commit. He pointed out the 35-year gap between the first and second films, humorously estimating that he’d be over a hundred years old if the same timeline applied to a third. He acknowledged how fulfilling it was to work with the cast again—especially blending original talent with fresh faces like Ortega—and appreciated Warner Bros. giving them the creative freedom to work with improvisation, much like they did with the original.

Despite his love for the characters and the franchise’s legacy, Tim Burton admitted that he doesn’t foresee another sequel happening. He compared trying to recreate the magic of 'Beetlejuice' to the challenge of replicating iconic moments like Ortega’s viral dance scene from 'Wednesday'—a phenomenon better left untouched.

In the meantime, Tim Burton and Ortega continue their collaboration with the highly anticipated 'Wednesday' Season 2, which will be released in two parts on Netflix. The first instalment debuts on 6th August, with the second following on 3rd September. The season will also introduce Lady Gaga in a mysterious new role, adding more buzz to the already popular series.

While 'Beetlejuice 3' may not be on the horizon, fans can still look forward to more from Burton and Ortega’s creative partnership in the months ahead.
