With anticipation building for his upcoming ping pong drama, Timothée Chalamet has shared a significant update on the future of the 'Dune' franchise. During a recent event where he spoke with Adam Sandler about past and upcoming projects, Chalamet revealed that filming on 'Dune: Part Three' has officially wrapped.

Production began in early July, making it the fastest-moving shoot of any 'Dune' instalment directed by Denis Villeneuve. The director previously offered fans a first look behind the scenes earlier this summer, signalling that cameras were officially rolling.

'Dune: Part Three' Release Date

As of now, 'Dune: Part Three' is slated for an 18th December 2026 release. The date is currently shared with 'Avengers: Doomsday,' though industry watchers widely expect one of the blockbusters to shift its debut window.

If both films were to stay locked on the same day, the box office could see a potential phenomenon on the scale of "Barbenheimer"—and possibly one that lives up to that level of excitement, unlike the attempted pairing of 'Wicked' and 'Gladiator II.' With both 'Dune: Part Three' and 'Avengers: Doomsday' positioned as massive 2026 tentpoles, it would be unusual for them to arrive on the same weekend.

Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, joined once again by Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Zendaya as Chani, and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan. Jason Momoa comes back as Duncan Idaho following his role in 'Dune: Part One,' while newcomers like Robert Pattinson join the ensemble. After her brief appearance in Part Two, Anya Taylor-Joy is also expected to take on a larger role in the third film.

When Does 'Dune: Part Three' Take Place?

Unlike the first two films, which unfold consecutively, 'Dune: Part Three' will feature a considerable time jump. The story moves forward twelve years from the events of 'Dune: Part Two,' aligning with the timeline in Frank Herbert's novels.

While the first two movies adapt Herbert's original 'Dune' book, the third film turns to the sequel novel, 'Dune: Messiah.' The plot follows Paul in his role as Emperor, exploring his political and military struggles with the great houses, his marriage to Princess Irulan, and the complicated continuation of his relationship with Chani.
