Tom Cruise has offered the first glimpse of his upcoming comedy, teaming up with 'The Revenant' director Alejandro G. Iñárritu for a project that already feels very different from his recent work.
On 18th December, Warner Bros. released a brief teaser for the film, titled 'Digger.' The short clip keeps details under wraps, showing Cruise in silhouette as he dances while holding a shovel and balances atop a fence along what looks like an oceanfront boardwalk. At 63, Cruise appears playful and mysterious, hinting at a lighter, more offbeat role.
Tom Cruise's 'Digger'
Tom Cruise shared the teaser on social media, expressing confidence in the project and describing 'Digger' as a comedy on a massive, chaotic scale. The studio later confirmed that he plays a character named Digger Rockwell.
The film marks Cruise's first major movie outside the 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Top Gun' franchises since 2017, when he appeared in 'American Made' and 'The Mummy.' His collaboration with Iñárritu was first revealed in early 2024, drawing attention because neither is typically associated with broad comedy.
About 'Digger'
Earlier this year, Iñárritu revealed that the film was once known by a different title and described it as intense, unpredictable, and surprisingly funny. He has said the project blends fear, humour, and beauty, and that stepping into comedy was a bold and intimidating choice for both him and Cruise. For the director, the challenge of doing something unexpected was exactly the point.
